Sally, have you tried using the JAWS screen refresh keystroke? Hold down the
JAWS key and press escape while in the affected programs. This keystroke will
attempt to ensure that JAWS is reading the most accurate information on the
screen.

Also, if Zoomtext is running while you are encountering these issues, try
unloading it to see if the problems disappear.

    Sally,

When you open the applications where you are experiencing this problem,
make sure that the program is maximized. Press alt+space, followed by x. Which
version of JAWS are you using?

      Scott,
Yes, Outlook Express and Internet Explorer. Perhaps this started after a
recent update of JAWS. JAWS will read only if item is selected when attempting
to go forward or backward by line or word.

Sally, is this behavior occurring in multiple applications? Have you
attempted the keystrokes in more than one program, such as Word, a web browser
like Internet Explorer, notepad, etc?

          Hi,
JAWS will not read with up or down arrow, only continuous reading
with Insert + 2. Neither can I read forward or backward a word.

Does anyone know what might have happened?

          Thanks for any suggestions.

          Sally
