Hello to all list members an do to all others reading this. Below is a post that I received. Please read! Sane -----Original Message----- From: Chris Skarstad [mailto:toonhead5@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: March 21, 2003 8:06 PM To: winamp4theblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Admin all please read regarding Winamp 2.9 beta! As many of you know, a new version of Winamp is out, and it's version 2.9. Nullsoft aparently either scrapped the 3.0 versions and went back to the 2.x series or they'll also be working on a 3.0 version, but for now we have this and it seems to work just fine. A few important notes for everyone to know before downloading and installing this, this is mainly directed at new users and list members, so veterins can ignore this stuf, if you like. 1. For JAWS users... If you use JAWS version 4.5 or 4.51, you do not, i repeat, do not need to worry about installing new scripts or modifying anything in the existing scripts, the ones that ship with versions 4.5 and 4.51 work just fine. Nothing was changed in the interface, so everything still applies. The only new feature that still puzzles me is the library, but that can be toggled, just like the minnie browser and all other windows. as soon as i get a little time to experiment with the library, i might be able to give some tips on it's use. and if anyone beats me to it, please post something, as I'm sure more than one take on something is always good. 2. Instalation When you install this beta version, it installs into the default Winamp folder, that being c:\program files\Winamp. If you would like to maintain your current version, but still use the beta version along with it, simply install the beta into a different folder, something like c:\program files\Winamp beta or something like that. Again this will protect your previous version and allow you to use the beta at the same time. you can create a desktop shortcut and even start menu icons for any version of Winamp in the preferences in the setup section. You don't need to install the beta into a new folder, but you can do that if you like. I chose to override version 2.80 with the 2.9 beta because i wanted to test it with broadcasting, but again, the choice is yours. Please note that you should not uninstall version 2.8 or 2.81 before installing this new version, that is unless you like losing all your settings. All your settings are maintained even in the new beta, which really makes a guy like me who messes around with a lot of plugins a happy guy. 3. Downloading the beta... Here is the direct link for downloading the beta. http://fileforum.betanews.com/download.php3?fid=972735976. if the link doesn't work for you, go to beta news.com and do a search for Winamp full and you can get it from there. Hope this helps to answer some new questions before they're asked, smile!
