If you want to know what ports you computer has and you are running windows go into the device manager under the hardware tab of system properties and arrow down to "Ports" and expand that to see what ports you have installed. Oh I did not know that. I did get a computer from someone which they built for me and on the back there is a port that fits that kind of cable, I don't know what that does, but at least I can use the blazer with my Braille and Speak, in fact I still have a switch box am sure they are not used anymore, but thought I might keep it for a back up or something. I was wondering what kind of embosser do you use? I also downloaded this one program you can not get it anymore called wintrans. I wonder if that would support the Blazer? ----- Original Message ----- From: Scott Granados <mailto:gsgranados@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: accesscomp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, October 06, 2008 7:16 PM Subject: [accesscomp] Re: braille blazer. So you have a few problems here. First, USB on it's own is not compatible with parallel. USB uses a serial type connection and parallel obviously uses parallel. Parallel is very old school. I haven't used a parallel printer since 1990 or so. Now, they may make a parallel to USB adapter but I doubt this would be very usable. One thing you might be able to do is install a SERIAL / Parallel port card in your PC. These cost sub $15 and include a serial port and parallel port which would work. Hello I was wondering would the braille blazer work with a usb cable since it does call for a parallel cable, don't know if my computer has a area for the cable to be plugged in to since the cable is kind of big, would a usb cable work since one end would plug in to the computer that would be the usb part and on the blazer on the parallel port the big part would be plugged in. I had to replace my cable for the print printer just by getting a USB cable, I wonder would this apply to the braille blazer as well? Also would Duxbury pick this up since am running windows xp? ____________________________________________________________ Click for free info on discount teaching degrees programs. <http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2142/fc/Ioyw6i3njBiDD6HQ4Y23rCkBGZ7 0eIAlqzxAQZI7nf8RgeXgxVZ8rU/>
