Hi Martin.

The box should automatically add new channels as and when they become
available; I presume it gets this information from the data streams coming
through the aerial when watching a program or when initially booting up. You
should only need to fully retune your box if you’re getting poor reception or
when moving house etc., oh, and of course when you’re instructed to by
technical support. I suggest you leave the automatic channel updating on for
the time being. I’ve only just started using a TVonics box so am getting used
to the device which is absolutely brilliant so far.

All the best, Ibrahim.

hi Ibrahim:

thanks for that. so the setting within settings about automatic channel update
doesn't do much then? it gives the impression the box will autotune as it were
once you have first tuned.

I'll see later on today if I get a box that says, please retune the box.

  Hi Martin.

Here is what the TVonics website has to say about retuning. I’ve followed
these instructions myself and they apply equally to the speech enabled boxes.
The switchover is a two-stage process, which means that you will need to
retune your digital box at each of the two stages of the switchover or if you
have lost any TV channels. You should retune your TVonics box on a regular
basis as this ensures that you keep your equipment up to date, and that you
have all the latest channels. Retuning couldn’t be easier, just follow the
instructions below:

a.. Switch on your TVonics Freeview box, press ‘menu’ on your remote
control
b.. Using the down arrow button select ‘Tuning’ on the fourth line of the
menu. Press ‘OK’.
c.. Using the down arrow button select ‘Automatic Search’. Press ‘OK’.You
will see a message appear on your screen ‘Your previous channel list will be
replaced’
d.. Using the right/left arrow select ‘YES’ and press ‘OK’
e.. A scanning screen will appear, where no action is required
f.. A sorting screen will then appear, where no action is required
g.. A confirmation screen will appear. Press ‘OK’
h.. BBC1 will play out behind the menu. Press ‘MENU’ to return to normal
programming.
You have now completed the process and can continue to enjoy viewing digital
channels. N.B. Depending on the TVonics model, you may be asked to enter a PIN
when accessing the tuning menu. If you have not already set a PIN then the
default code is 0000.

I’d only add that you might be asked to select your regions, this is so you
get the right channels for your area.
  All the best, Ibrahim.

      HI.

I have a free retuning day tomorrow. does the tonics retune itself? or do
you have to do automatic search? also, what happens to all the recording
setups you've done? thanks.
