It's fairly common knowledge I think Jackie and all that the Sonos Alexa
integration is being worked on, I've read a couple of blogs about it, and,
apparently they're working on the voice control aspect of the UI to ensure
that, when its released, it'll use natural language.
Yes, you can plug an input source through the line in on either the play5 or
connect, and then make that source available in other rooms.
I for example use this if I want to listen to a sports commentary that's
only available on FM. I plug my FM radio into the line in, then listen to
it in whatever room I want, whilst quite often have other stuff playing in
other rooms.
Regarding your comment about the Alexa app, have you looked at it since the
update that was released in the past 24 hours or so?

Hi Trace
The Sonos app has to be one of the most accessible I've ever seen, it's
really great. I don't particularly like the Alexa app though, I personally
find it very sticky. The Sonos Controller is also great on Windows, made
even better with Brian Hartgen's scripts that are freely available. I've
got into Sonos in a big way this year, I absolutely love it.
You can plug your Echo Dot into the line-in socket on a Play5, and I believe
there are a couple of skills that allow you to have very limited control of
your Sonos using Alexa, but I've never used them. Hopefully Sonos will
integrate Alexa into it properly some day.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown
