Hi Martin, no luck here so have once again, reluctantly, rolled back to win 7!I
deliberately ensured both jaws and nvda were removed prior to updateing but
although win 10 installed ok, slowly but ok, nothing seemed to function,
outlook express, thunderbird and other programmes according to the screen
reader were not responding! Even my normally trustworthy NVDA, failed to do
even basic stuff like open a web page, all it seemed to say in some menu’s was
“unknown!” All is now well though and I will not be venturing down the win 10
road again till I’m sure it will work! Thanks anyway! Much appreciated!

Hi Alistair,
I assume you want your browser to be Internet Explorer? If so, what does it say
with regards to Internet Explorer? Are you able to change that? If you default
to Internet Explorer it should update and revert your default away from Edge.
Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin, this is precisely the process I’ve been trying without success,it
still says edge is my default browser and mail is the default mail!I guess I
might be missing a step somewhere along the line! On a separate note, can
anyone recommend a mail programme which does work for us in win 10? Again
Martin, thanks!

HI Alistair,
As a quick pointer, I have experienced this issue myself. The good news is that
there is a workaround of sorts.
First, hit the Windows key button and type “Control Panel” – this brings up
the old style Windows 7 panel. Microsoft have kept it there because they are
still migrating the code from the old platform to the new, although essentially
you are still running Windows 10.
Once in there, go to “default programs”, then “Set your default programs”. Tab
once and arrow down, you will now be in the long list of programs.
Once you are on the program you want to be the default tab twice or three times
depending on whether you want to set all the programs defaults or just a
selection. Pressing spacebar should do the trick.
Once done, tab round until you get to OK. J
Cheers
Martin

Subject: [access-uk] setting defaults in windows 10
Hi folks just installed win 10, despite going to default progs, selecting tthe
desired programme, e.g. IE or outlook express I can’t get it to accept any of
my changes, any suggestions? I am using nvda!I did select the set as default
button and saved the changes and pressed ok but with no luck each time I enter
on the progrramme I have chosen as my default the pc says “not responding”! I
know this might not be the list for such discussion so is there a list for win
10 questions?
