Hi Mike,
I'm not trying to defend RNIB, but here is what I have found in a few minutes.
1) Perhaps it is felt that sheets Perkins size, are a better all round option:
https://shop.rnib.org.uk/braille-and-labelling/labelling/braille-labelling/clear-self-adhesive-labelling-sheets-28-2cm-x-29-2cm.html.
2) They certainly sell the label adaptor for the newer Perkins.
https://shop.rnib.org.uk/braille-and-labelling/labelling-tape-adaptor-next-generation-perkins.html
I am surprised that the original is not available in the UK.
3) So why is the tape on their web page at
https://shop.rnib.org.uk/reading-and-learning/braille/labeling/10-rolls-of-clear-braille-labelling-tape-12mm.html.
It is also available in many retail and internet outlets.
George

IMHO the RNIB have got a lot worse at supplying the things we need, as opposed
to the things which would be a 'nice to have' and which invariably give them a
big margin.
Recent things I have bought from the RNIB in the past and now can't get:
1. The CD sized clear sticky labels, square, which can be Brailled upon.
2. The metal Dymo-tape adaptor which fit into old Perkins Braillers.
3. I believe one or two people have even had difficulty buying Dymo tape.
These things are, or should be, viewed as basic essentials.
They would much prefer to sell over-priced hand-cuffs like Dolphin Guide, which
makes it possible for them to charge a thousand quid for a four hundred quid
laptop.
The RNIB is run by people who know the price of everything but the value of
nothing.
Not including the great and hard-working VI members of the telephone team.

Has anyone read the petition? It is not so much about selling high
tech solutions and invading on others personal commercial thieftoms,
but rather making available products that rightly belong in the
catalogues of RNIB, family products such as board games, picture
cards, adaptive aids so that people like Phillipa who is a young
mother with sighted children can engage with their families. Parental
activities with children form an important part of any child's
upbringing and there just aren't enough products in the catalogs of
suppliers that promote this kind of interaction. As phillipa states
in her petition, she has to purchase products from overseas which can
be time consuming not to mention expensive, especially when you
consider the implications of Brexit. I suspect that one of the
biggest challenges for suppliers of products here is the cost of
importation and trying to make a profit on a product which relies on
volume sales; it's a strategy that most suppliers I suspect ju

I'm not trying to be contentious, but do we know that they don't sell
products that consumers want? Actually I agree with Steve in that part of a
significant charity like the RNIB's role should be the promotion of the
private sector who rely on sales rather than trying to do everything when
they also take donations.

I'd rather they didn't to be honest, as a reseller and specialist in the
products we sell, I'd rather the RNIB signposted, and concentrated on
services. They end up selling so many products, that they can't possibly
know about all of them, whereas smaller businesses can specialise better in
what they do.
All the best
