[access-uk] portable hard drive problem

I have a lot of data on a 500gig USB portable drive which I am trying to
access. I get told the disk is not formatted which is odd because I know I've
hundreds of radio dramas on this drive.
Is there anyway I can recover these as some I know I'll never get again.
I've tested it with at least two netbooks with the same result.
If anyone can suggest any way to resolve this, I'd be very much obliged.
