Steve, I was interested that you use a preamp from soundman.com. Is this the company (with a different web site) from which we both purchased a preamp, via their UK distributors? It seems to be that it is not because your preamp appears to take different batteries. Did you therefore change this, perhaps because of slightly low volume recording on the PTR? Is this one even better then? <SMILE> -- Carol carol.pearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Steve Nutt Sent: Wednesday, May 11, 2005 10:05 PM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: mp3 players/recorders Hi Joe, I use a preamp which I bought from Soundman http://soundman.com, I believe, but it's a while ago. They only sell one, as far as I know, it takes a PP3 battery, and preamps any mic that isn't powered. I agree with you that the Plex is a bit bulky, but it does pretty stunning recordings. A brain storm from me there. I had considered using a Mic to line pre-amp, I just haven't located a good one at an afordable price. The last pre-amp I looked at was about 130 dollars and because it is marketed by an american company with no u k representation, and if it didn't suit, i'd be stuck with it. I talked to H H B but they no longer supply these pre-amps, well at least last year that was true, haven't checked with them lately. Must do that. Which pre-amp do you use? The PTR1 is a little bulky though, and it's battery life is not the longest and I don't know of a separate charging unit for those batteries do you? I would still like something smaller, and more efficient on power. Your thoughts welcome.
