Yes George, I've got an HP and they are connected to Compaq in some way. I've
had to turn off things to make the display better using Vista, but I don't
quite understand what Ian's problem is, so I can't make accurate or helpful
suggestions. But you're right what you say about some manufacturers altering
things so you have to make adjustments to accommodate JFW.

  Hi Ian,

I'm inclined to suggest you contact technical support at Sight and Sound.
Compaq (with a q) have a nasty habit of messing about with the Operating
System, so you may need to turn off some of their intrusive system protection
rubbish.

  George.

head Jaws 8 installed on a new laptop at work. It is behaving very
inconsistently in both Outlook 03 and word. It sporadically doesn't present
information from the inbox either in Braille or in speech, then at other times
it does. However, when I go into a message, it will read the text in speech
but not always in Braille. then once I reply, it behaves inconsistently again.
Similar stuff is happening in Word. And again, intermittently, the Braille
simp;ly drops off. Can anyone advise either what's going on or how to put i
ri8ght?
