Hi Barry, Thanks for getting back.Ok, I understand that point, however, when I connect my external dvd r/w to the machine there is the same problem. I've been using this external dvd drive with my netbook for listening to and ripping dvds for some time now.

That's not a DVD drive. Win Explorer might have it set as DVD/CD, but whenyou put a disk in it's showing you it's a CD ROM. Can you check the name and model under Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, CD/DVD Drives? Cheers, Barry. -----Original Message-----From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Ofjim mcauslan Sent: Sunday, November 29, 2009 3:26 PM To: access-uk Subject: [access-uk] dvd drive not reading dvds Hi List, I have a digital work station, or music pc, which has a dvd r/w drive. Untill now, I've only installed software that comes on standard cds. However, today, with sighted help, I tried to install a drum library calledsuperior drummer but it wouldn't read the disks. I tried a standard movie dvd in the same drive and the same thing happened.I then connected an external dvd r/w to my work station and, hey presto thesame thing happened. I then re-connected my external dvd r/w to my netbook and the superior drummer dvd sprang into life and wanted to be installed. My sighted help, my bro attempted to see if there was a problem by looking at various menus and folders, but it seems that when a dvd is inserted it changes its status and tells us that it's a cd drive. We're totally fogged., Any thoughts? The work station is just about 5 or six months old so is still in warranty.Jim McAuslan from sunny Findhorn jim.mcauslan@xxxxxxx minds are like parachutes work best when open ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq__________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signaturedatabase 4646 (20091129) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com__________ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signaturedatabase 4646 (20091129) __________ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
