Hannah, just replying to this post, if you need help on how to secure the wireless at home, I would speak to your father, who will probably speak to Hank is it? You know, his technician. He could then come out and configure the router such that someone would need to know the wep key in order to connect. and it's good to know the network is secure after all.  Hannah, if your
network at home is not secure you really should secure it.

It's easy to connect to someone else's network if the connection is not
secure and use it for yor own purposes. This may just be to find something 
out on the web or download your email but there are far more sinister
activities than this.
For what it's worth, I would have no concerns what so ever about connecting to an unsecured wireless network to read my mail or look up train times. I 
know this is stealing someone else's bandwidth but I really do regard this
as the network owner's problem for not employing basic security such as
using WEP at least to provide the security of needing to know a password in order to connect. Hiding the SSID is also a good idea. You define the SSID when you set up the network, and this is what is displayed when you see the 
name of the network in the list you can connect to.

Hi Hannah,
That's great to know that you've successfully connected. However, they
should have said to you yesterday that it's a secure network, however you
could argue that most businesses employ this to prevent hackers.
In terms of finding the network automatically, Windows should automatically 
recognize that you are no longer connected to that network when you get
home, thus switching to the one at home.

Hi all.

just to let you know i am connected successfully at my vollentary work
placement. It's a secure network so i had to ask for a net work key and
a password. but it's set to a automatick network. so does that mean i
will have to view my networks when i get home.
