thanks George. will have a look at this. I also hear that Winzip also
contains some interesting backup options to. while not free this could be
worth exploring too.

Hi Graham,

I assume you are using XP Home.

To start with, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302894
"HOW TO: Install Backup from the CD-ROM in Windows XP Home
Edition."

When you've done that, see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320820
"How to Use the Backup Utility to Back Up Files and Folders
in Windows XP Home Edition."

Hope this helps.

George.

Subject: [bcab] backup software

Hi all.

I have just bought a Maxtor 500 GB hard disk drive for
backing up
information but it did not come with any backup software.

I want to regularly backup my documents folder and possibly
Outlook Express
email.

I know I can do this manually but I wondered if there was
any inexpensive or
free alternatives?

Can I set up windows scheduler to do this? I have twice as
much space on
the 500 gb disk as I do on my PC so I thought about not
bothering to
compress the backup so I could access files individually if
necessary.

any advice much appreciated.

regards

Graham
