You can find details of the End User License Agreement
(EULA) for your XP system by going to Start, Help & Support,
and searching for EULA.
Here's part of what can up on my XP Home system:
Can I make a second copy of my Microsoft Windows operating
system software for my portable computer?
The answer is generally, "no." Copyright law and the terms
of your End-User License Agreement (EULA) govern your rights
to copy and run Microsoft software. In the case of Microsoft
Windows operating system software, the EULA does not permit
you to run more than one copy.

But surely then, the computer print would be different,
wouldn't it? does
the software only pick up the print from the hard drive?
Does this mean that
if you reformat a drive you can install the same copy of win
xp on 2
computers?

Generally when most PCs are sold with operating system, if
you disturb this
and put one of your own on it may invalidate part of the
warrantee though it
would e possible technically. If you can get a PC sans
operating system
then you could in theory install your Windows XP on this,
even if it is an
upgrade provided you have the original Windows ME CD if it
is an upgrade
version then XP can be installed on a clean drive.

Because my system is 6 years old now and is showing signs
of fatigue in
spite of processor and mother board upgrade, I'm thinking
of buying an
entirely new set-up.
As I live in France everything comes with French versions
of Windows and

office installed.
I find it much more comfortable to use an English version.
Could I
uninstall
the French version of windows pre-installed on a new
set-up and install my
own version, an upgrade of WIN ME? Do I then have to
re-activate Windows?
or
must I buy a brand new copy of the operating system?I have
seen some pcs
sold without any OS installed, would one of those allow
me to install my
own version of Windows?
As you see, am not sure about what is allowed by Microsoft
and what is
best
for smooth operation.
