HouseLogix, an Allentown, Pennsylvania based company that provides hardware
and software to the home automation industry, recently released a product
they call VoicePod.

Because of VoicePod's embedded speaker independent and voice recognition
technologies, this device requires no computer or Internet access to be
connected. The speech recognition component enables users to achieve hands
free home control. For example, individuals can voice commands like: "Turn
on the TV," "Lock the door," and "Turn on the radio." Along with the tasks
just mentioned, product owners can also use just their voices to control
cameras, door locks, shading, thermostats, and specific TV channels. As if
the above uses weren't enough, you can also ask VoicePod about temperatures
and other weather conditions. Due to its small size and embedded speakers,
VoicePod can be placed on a table, mounted on a wall or be connected in a
way that conceals its speakers and microphones. If a person has more than
one VoicePod, they can interact with each other. These devices also "know"
to which device the speaker is closer, and it is the closer VoicePod that
will execute the voice commands.
