Hi Barry

Many thanks for this, I'd not thought of grabbing pod casts on such
matters. I don't like monopolies and I'd be uneasy if users of adaptive
technology were disadvantaged by using a non Intel processor.

I like George pray that Vista's problems will be dealt with in the near
future as new XP Pro machines will not be available next year as
Microsoft are not allowing the "Original Equipment Makers" to supply XP
at the end of this year. Reported by Google, the BBC,
trustedreviews.com and pcretailmag.com. Interestingly, the replacement
for Vista is said to be Vienna scheduled for a 2009 release. At least
XP will be supported up until 2012.

Adaptive Technology producers have got their work cut out as it is a
time of great change and competition. =20

Regards

Gena

Hi Gena,

Intel have been leaps ahead since the release of the core 2 duo stuff.

AMD are getting peoples ganders up because of their numbers, 300XP and
so=20
on.

People what to know ghz it seems.

I haven't been watching the benchmakrs but listening to highly rated
tech=20
podcasts like, Cranky Geeks or This Week In tech seems to suggest that=20
there's not much hype even surrounding AMD's quad core systems.

I used to love AMD about 4 years ago but I'm super impressed with Intel
now. Sorry i cant' give much more info, it's Sunday and I'm nto quite
awake yet.

Hi George

I haven't seen any recent benchmark tests but have Intel regained their
position? I wonder what research shows adaptive technology is affected
by the brand of the processor? Who paid for such research and who
published this research?

Please expand I'm all ears.

Hi Mandy,

I don't know Philips, but personally I would steer clear of Brother and
Compaq. (had both)

Sony Vaio and Toshiba Satellites have been good though. A former
colleague is keen on IBM Thinkpads, and what I saw in the year they were
with me didn't cause me to disagree.

Outside of that, I'd suggest staying with Intel Pentium processors or
their Dual Core variety, mainly because using adaptive technology with
anything less puts you in a minority situation.

George.

Thanks George point taken.

In fact: which laptops would you recommend?>

Personally speaking, I'd try and leave Vista alone for now,
and see if anyone has any laptops which are Vista approved,
but come with XP.=3D3D20

I have Vista on my system at home here, and wish I didn't
have to. And it's only on here because of some on-going development work
I do which needs to run with Vista.

I've been almost 20 years working with Windows and
supporting it in one way or the other, but Vista just sucks.

I'm just praying that it won't be too long before Microsoft
fix some of the bugs and annoyances and produce a Service
Pack for it.

Otherwise, in the not too distant future, I swear this
system is likely to out through a first floor closed window
on to a stone patio.

Hi.

I'm thinking of buying a new laptop: price is a major consideration and
I know there was a lot of talk about laptops last year - I want
something as small as possible, I am quite fond of my Toshiba so am
wondering whether to stick with that or to try something else. All the
new models have Vista is it best to go for one of those or just for a
vista capable model?

Mandy.
