[access-uk] Re: Thoughts on a new list

And to be fair, I think someone should start up a bespoke blind friendly
clutter free tech support messageboard. That said, I'm still not sure
the majority would move onto it from mailing lists. But the benefits of
googling and being able to link back to previous answers would be really
good.

Damon,

Again I'm in agreement with you here.

There certainly is a mailing list culture. Now there's pro's for this
of course, but one of the negatives is that people will ask a reasonably
straight forward question when either.

A. In the case of a list commands the info is at the bottom of each
mail.

B. In the case of a more general question like,

Where to get a program just mentioned a simple google of the programs
name will bring up loads of results. The first typically being the
developers web site. It's this lack of Initiative and enablement that
often concerns me.

For people who have no prior knowledge we should be more supportive.
However, there are usual subjects that are just babied and who would
crazily, (in my view), ask a question on a mailing list such as this,
wait a day or so for an answer when they could just google and get an
answer in seconds.

Barry.
