Hmm, problem. What if your joy in life is sugar boiling? I once had a sugar thermometer that could cope with very high temperatures, so that you could see when you were in the range for toffee, fudge, etc. Shame it didn't talk!

Thanks for the replies.  Cobolt don't do anything. And what on earth
is the point of a food thermometer which can't cope with steam?  Oh
well...it's a shame...hope one day someone will come up with
something...
