Tris & Steve,

Thanks for your replies, because it is pre boot, and the company has
strict security policy, (you can imagine why!) and they won't lower the
security level, the only way to get round it other than have someone
else start up the PC, would be to use something like the KNFB reader,
which costs more than the laptop!
I'm sure Access to Work would like that one!

Regards

Dave

Dave,

We've looked at PointSec encryption software and the default
installation is like the one you outline, but there are options to
bypass these initial input entries. Our security people say this does
lower the level of security, but it's still good enough. I don't know if
that is an option for your organisation.

Steve

Have you raised with this with the IT department, there may possibly be
a physical token alternative that may serve as an alternative or so you
only need to enter one password instead of two. As what you describe
sounds like pre-boot encryption there are not many solutions to this
because it is before any operating system gets going.

Hi all,

I currently use a desktop PC at work, and I am currently looking into
getting a laptop instead, so I can move to other offices, sites and use
it in meetings and classrooms etc.

One problem that has arisen is that company laptops have an initial,
encrypted logon, which entails entering the asset details and two
passwords, and only when that has been successfully completed, will
Windows boot up, and then yet again another password is required.

The problem being, that until windows boots up, JAWS does not come into
action. Therefore the initial encrypted logon will have to be done
without JAWS. On top of this, from time to time, the passwords require
to be changed, so most of the time, it would be possible to operate
blind! ha, but then corrupt the system when the passwords require
changing.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Dave
