Mel,

Gold Wave (fromm www.goldwave.com) is the first one that comes to mind  No need 
to 
purchase it if you don't need it for major audio editing - the evaluation 
version has all 
the features but only allows you a certain number of editing commands per 
session - 
quite adequate for the task you want to perform.
