My 98 machine won't work without the monitor plugged in but I am pretty sure
that this xp machine will.

Hi Barry,
Try pulling the monitor data cable out.
George.

Hi George, none of my XP systems need the monitor o (home and pro)n, I only ever turn it on if I need a sightie to help with a glitch! Haven't tried disconnecting it, but had assumed that no power to the monitor would get the same result?
All the best Barry G, not the Barry that posted the question!

Hi Barry,
In simple terms, NO! XP needs to see the hardware there, or thinks it's faulty. However, this is not always a golden rule.
Why don't you just switch it off, and see what happens? I doubt the roof will collapse on top of you" (Smile)
George.
