Thanks Tristram - I hadn't fully appreciated how much VO, wi-fi and streaming radio drained the battery in comparison to just listening to music. I now know I've got full battery life, and am happy with the performance -

You do not necessarily have to deviate that much from normal:1 Install all he music and media you need onto the iPod so you have plenty to play with. 2 Take the unit off charge use it more or less as normal although being a new user you will probably be playing with it rather a lot and drain the battery quite quickly. Keep using it right down to the wire if you can. 3 When it pitches out and you have a dead unit hook back up the mains and let it charge. 4 If in the course of normal use you can let it go down to flat a few more times that should be enough. During this time a top of charge here and there is not going to cause problems but make sure you run to flat a few times.I still have a iPod touch 1st generation which still provides very good battery times for its stated capability.Regards. I have afeeling sometimes you're advised to do this and at other times you're not, so I didn't fully discharge mine until it went off either. -- Carol P ---- Original Message ---- From: "ANDY COLLINS" <Andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2011 5:25 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Oops! was:More on the iPod Touch batteryWhat nobody seems to want to tell us with new devices, and rechargeable batteries, is what to do at the outset, it isn't in the hand book or anywhere, so if others didn't share their knowledge, we'd never get to know, or that's how it appears to me. When I first got the Touch, and connected it to my laptop, it showed battery as 79% charged, so before using it, I let it fully charge. It now seems that the thing to have done was to actually drain it? Even though there was no music or anything on there to play to allow it to drain! I did ask on list at the outset about what to do for the first charge, but nobody said anything about draining the battery to start with, just that it perhaps didn't need the full 15 hour charge new devices use to require.
