That is what I did for my own custom ring tones. I purchased a recording program, which is totally accessible, fromwww.highcriteria.com calledTotal Recorder. Though I suspect any recording program will do. I recorded them at a low bit rate in MP3 format. I have custom ring tones for all those who call me. So, if I am not able to hear the caller ID I can know who is calling by the ring tone chosen. My son originally gave me the idea when he sent me a sound I converted to a ring tone which sang: "Because you love me for who I am, I will always love you Mom".----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <jackie.cairnsplace@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, August 18, 2012 3:58 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: OCR on androidAgreed, completely. Eleanor, as I realise you have a guide dog, can't you record the animalbarking and then download it onto your phone as a ring tone? Just a thoughtif you want a dog barking that much! (lol). No offence by the way, just feedback that perhaps the creators might want to bear in mind. (lol). A couple of points We have taken on board the points about onscreen keyboard capability to supplement voice activated method You can switch from touch and hold to select to single tap or double tap - it's in settings - input and you change the mode of operation We have improved OCR, it's now at least as good as the K Reader was, maybe better - depends on the phone you use - needs to be at the 5Mp end really. You can exit Georgie back into core Android on the phone by selecting Expert mode - this allows the back key to reverse you out to the underlying phone app - Basic and Advanced stop you at the Georgie menu. As I am sure you have worked out, Georgie is not targeted at the type of person who are regulars on this forum, most of you have mastered smartphone ( but not all), so as ever its horse for courses. On price, the K Reader only had OCT and was £1485 in 2008 and ended at £799. This is more like £400- £500 inc phone and it does much much more. Of the early purchasers I would say that 70% have not used phones very much at all due to the complexity of previous screen readers for phones. Most ( but not all) have found the point and hold method easier to master than double tap . Taking over the volume key removed the need for gestures, again targeted at the less familiar with phones user. We are completely changing the way text and phone call operation works to make it more intuitive, easier to save and return calls. Version to be released at end of month. There is an easy to use web site that supports the phone. Contact, easy texts and selection of audio books etc can all be managed from that interface by user or sighted helper - changes are transferred to the phone is seconds. I am sorry the dog upsets Jackie, I will ask for a Cat and a Tortoise version The good thing about Georgie is that as it improves the phone automatically updates, so much easier than trying to support users in the field who need help updating phones to cure issues.. Warning - the audio books download, podcasts and all lifestyle pack features are streaming data. You really need to use wifi or have a data bundle if you are a regular user of this type of feature. I did once manage to get to the option to scan by holding my phone virtically, but when i clicked it it complained that my document wasn't in the frame despite the fact that i was pointing my camera straight at the sign in question. i tried various distance amounts as well as various angles to try and get the document in focus, but there's no audible feedback to let you know if the document is in the frame, or how to move the camera to achieve a good image. This brings to mind another question. Although the Beyo CBS reader you sell has been discontinued, are licenses still available for purchase? If not, has the discontinued version been made free for use by Beyo? All the best, Mo. On 07/08/2012 20:37, Steve Nutt wrote:Hi, Google goggles. And it's not bad. Not perfect, but works.
