I have also downloaded it and put a little work into understanding it.

It can be used as an OCR program for printed text without too much difficulty. Provided you only want to sca, convert images into text and save the output as Word or text documents. This can be done with JAWS without going into JAWS cursor mode. If you want to read the document you must save it and then read it with NotePad or Word. Trying to read the document in SimpleOCR is not practical. Nor is trying to do very much with the spell checker. although it is simple to use you cannot be certain of what the context of the word is.

I am told that it can be used to recognise handwriting. Although it seems that a known text has to be written and then scanned and corrected before any kind of confidence can be placed in it.

SimpleOCR will do the job it is needed for without too much difficulty.

I tried this but did not find it very accessable with windo-eyes.

I had a quick look on Google and found this free OCR programme:

http://www.simpleocr.com/Download/SimpleOCR.exe

I've just had a bit of a play around with it and it seems to do the job ok.
I had to do a little jaws cursoring but the drop down menu's were totally
accessable.

Hi all

Can anyone suggest a free or low cost accessible OCR program that can be
downloaded from the net.

I am trying to undo the damage caused by a well-meaning but non-techie
relative of a friend.
