Note that I've changed the subject.

Do each of the computers have an RJ45 network port?  If so, you will
need a network crossover cable to start with to connect them both
with.

However, if each PC has wireless already, you could go for a dial up
wireless system.  See the following for a basic explanation.  (In case
it wraps, the URL ends in dialup.htm)
