Thanks for that Ibrahim. I admit to not knowing that. I already had a Hotmail
account so it wasn't really an issue but worth knowing should I close it.

jill.

  Hi Jill.

You don't need to set up a hotmail address; I use my own personal email
address to sign in to messenger, all you need is a windows live ID, something
that you'll be asked to set up when you load messenger for the first time. If
you want a new email account Andrew, by all means set up a hotmail account, but
bare in mind that your messenger sign-in will be a hotmail address, so if
someone chooses to send you an email through messenger, it will mean you'll
have the additional account to check.

  All the best, Ibrahim.

    Hi Andrew.

First, you'll need to create a Hotmail account if you haven't got 1
already. Once that's done you'll need to download Windows Live Messenger,
though if you've got MSN Messenger or the like already on your machine then
that's irrelevant.Your User name will be your email address. I think you'll
also have to go through image varification when you sign up.

You then need to add someone's contact address. Once Messenger's all set
up, you should be on a screen where you can add contacts and you'll see any
that are already added. alt C brings up the contacts menu, a for add. Then it
should say something like type email address, so put that in and tab round the
next few fields. Then you should find a button which says something like
"proceed to next screen." This is where you invite someone so you just type an
introductory message and I think there may be a next screen button after that,
can't quite remember. It's relatlvely easy. to message someone, I think you
just click on the name of the contact and an edit box should come up and you
might hear "type message here."

I don't know how to do everything in Messenger yet as I've just started up
again, but any more questions, just ask. I'm sure someone will answer even if
it's not me.

    Jill.
