I also wonder if the web browser is any better than the one that was/is on the android? We know that till recently on android version we couldn't download and stream. Now we can download, but not so sure about streaming. But there's no need for me to even consider using their browser on android any more. It seems though that they've learned from android mistake and that their e-mail client does support any IMIP protocol, not just gMail, like it did in android. It is also interesting that unlike for android their software is free for windows. When I first started using android I didn't really have a choice but to shell out £60 because I was still on 2.3. Granted, it's still less than what the likes of talks used to cost and one can argue that if I wanted to I could have got an iPhone and have a screenreader for free, but that's another subject for another day *g*.

Hi all,

The odd thing about doing it this way is that one of the areas Windows phones can probably most effectively compete with the iPHone and Android devices is on the quality of the hardware, and nothing I can see in the Mobile Accessibility suite enables you to take advantage of that.

I wonder if Nuance turned Microsoft down.

Cheers,

Ed

This appears to suggest Microsoft have no intention of making their mobile
smart phone system genuinely accessible if that is all they are providing.
It's a sop to blind people and a fig leaf to cover Microsoft phone's lack of
accessibility. No matter what you think of Apple at least they have
integrated accessibility into every aspect of the iPhone so that the whole
thing is useable by us. With Microsoft's solution none of the phone's
systems are accessible and a separate suite of apps are simply replicating
some of the functions of the phone in a very limited way. I really think
blind people should be boycotting Windows phones until Microsoft take
accessibility seriously.

Hi,

Just a little subset of talking apps, not a full fledged screen reader. I
personally wouldn't give it the time of day but I'm not that impressed with
Windows phone yet anyway.

All the best
