Hi there,

I've been a JAWS user for 10 years now and learned thoroughly at the beginning. I purchased Window-Eyes in the earlier days but couldn't get on with it. I kept going back, feeling that I should use my purchase. Three or four times I tried and got stuck . . .. I left it for ages but now, in sheer frustration with a few things about JAWS and with my eye on the OQO amongst other things, I decided to have another crack but to do things a little differently this time. I've installed the 30 minute demo. No, it's not long once you want to play with more advanced stuff, but as these days you can flit between the two very easily, it does work. I decided not to try to learn it all now or to read through the manual in its entirity because I always get stuck at a certain oint anyway . . .. I've made a decision to "float" first. By that I mean that I want to do what I need to do every day, so I'm learning key strokes and applying them to the programmes I already use on a daily basis. Now, I'm going to need to do more than that and it may well be that I'll reach another sticking point, but it's going OK right now, even in that I decided, at the last minute, not to go for the JAWS key strokes layout but to just leave things as they are and learn what I need.

I am just writing all this by way of encouragement and, hopefully, a little help to others. It may be that someone on list would like to help me to learn . . . and I'd welcome any help right now so that I really can succeed these days.

No, I haven't thrown JAWS out yet and am still using int more than Window-Eyes, because of the evaluation timeouts, but I am doing something each day with Window-Eyes and reckon that's a start.

Perhaps we need a class!

Cheers now.

Hya Chris.

I'm going to find the move difficult but seriously I see no future in jfw. Especially for a Computer Science student such as myself.

I've tryed the jfw keyboard layout in a weye demo but would prefer to just make a full switch, uninstall the damn thing and be done with it!

If only weye's laptop keyboard layout was better I'd be laughing.

Aww, let me pass on my sympathies. I had lots of JFW issues, and never looked back when using WE 5.5. You'lll love it! Anyway, in answer to your question, I haven't a clue. I don't know if you know this, but WE 5.5 relies on the document object model (DOM) in both Microsoft Word and Excel, so documents will be read out accurately 100% of the time, whereas JAWS relies on the screen, not the DOM, crap eh? No, the problem doesn't occur in virtual cursor mode as that relies on MSAA. Anyway good luck with the move, and please let us know what you think of it. Look forward to hear from you.

Hi guys.

I've had this problem for as long as I can remember. I've experienced it on no less than three machines with a half dozen different graphics cards.

JFW Version, 6.0.
XP Pro.
Everythings set to classic, colour depth is 32bit, all effects aare turned off.

My problem is that Jaws will an awful lot of the time not read an entire line of text in Notepad r Wordpad or Microsoft Word. (Any version), and also in Dreamweaver 8.

It makes editing anything laborious to the point that I can't be bothered half the time. I'm getting Window Eyes 5.5 v soon because I'm frankly fed up with JFW. But in the meantime I need this resolved.

For example. I have in notepad my websites index.html file.

It will read, line 1 of the following only if I highlight the text and line 2 no problem.

This does not happen in virtual cursr mode such as in Outlook Express, IE etc. It also does not happen in Windows Explorer.

Line1: ///<p> Thank you very much for being important visitor number </p>///
Line 2: ///<p><!--#include virtual="/count.cgi?page=homepage&type=text&reloads=0"--> </p>///

Any ideas folks?

Thanks
Bary
