Thank you for your message.

However, I have already solved the problem, as I asked on another list
yesterday, and received a very helpful phone call from a friend.

The problem with deleting the shortcuts concerned, was that they were
identical to others on my desktop, i.e, I had two "my Documents" icons and
two "my computer" icons on my desktop, and I did not want to delete the
wrong ones.
As I say, the problem is now solved.
