Hi Christine

Ok lets try again. I had spent over half an hour writing to
you and outlook crashed so I lost the lot so I'll try again.

Don't worry, we all get things wrong, it's very easy to
misunderstand things. I find not having broadband very
frustrating as I said in my last message to you last night
but there is not a lot I can do about it. I don't have long
to wait, the french government brought in a new law that the
whole of the country has to have broadband by the end of
2012 so that's only 2 years away but it's still frustrating
in the meantime. the cost of the internet isn't an issue,
I'd have to pay for it where ever I was living.

I'm glad things are calling down on the list now. I really
didn't expect to upset anyone and a simple request
backfiring on me like that, I didn't expect that either.
still, that's history now. I'm glad you're not up-set with
me, life's too short!!

I don't intend to have too many groups, the ones I have will
be run properly, Keith is my second in command and as he
wanted the list, he can do most of it although I shall be
watching from the back seat. Don't you worry! Yes I agree
with you, you have to keep a firm hand otherwise they can
get out of control.

If you want a hand with moderating please let me know. This
time of year I try and stay off the pc as it's so easy to
use it too much but it's too hot to be outside so I'm
keeping in the cool. In the winter I'd have more time for
the net.

I'm glad Gwen is ok now, I just hope I didn't upset her in
any way, that wasn't the intention! She seems to be very
nice but vulnerable in some way. You know her much better
than me. I actually wrote to her off list apologising and
hoping that she's ok and explaining a bit about how
attachments on e-mails work and the fact that you have no
choice other than to download them.

I'd love to join your new group, only the one you mentioned
though, not all 94 groups, I couldn't cope with that many
messages, I keep my groups to a minimum for obvious reasons!
I find moderating groups ok although the two I'm moderator
of are on unmoderated, that makes life easier. the speakon
list is very quiet just like the bbuk list. Keith is running
that as I said. I can't imagine how difficult it must be
just reading braille or using a braille display, that must
be very tricky. I haven't used braille for nearly twenty
years now, I use the computer or audio for most things
nowadays. As I said, put me on your list, I am quite
particular with lists, I prefer ones like Keith's list as
they are friendly, I don't like lists that wonder off topic.
I like lists that are technical or useful to me like the
dolphin list.

Ok now on to your last question. No it's not cheeky, I know
a bit about you but you probably don't know much about me.
No life isn't hard over here, no more so than any where
else, it's just that France is still several years behind
the uk in some ways but much more advanced in others. No
huge supermarket chains like tesco, its all franchises. It's
much better in many ways. The health services are perfect,
the hospitals are very good. Yes France is huge, you can
definitely get away from it here.

No we are not cut off, we just live in the countryside and
it is beautiful.

Firstly I'll tell you why we came to France. Mum has a form
of cancer and she needs an easy life, lots of fresh air and
a good healthy diet. France has all of those things. My dad
is retired, he couldn't get work in the UK, he used to work
in the building trade.

Me, well, that's a different story. Originally I didn't want
to come to France, I wanted to be independent. I knew that
my parents aren't always going to be around and at the age
of 35, I am now 41 fast approaching 42, I wanted to go
independent but it wasn't to be. I put my name on about 15
housing associations all over the uk, I registered with
several councils in different parts of the uk but there was
no specialist housing to be had. I was offered a 1 bedroom
flat in the north of Scotland but it was too far north and
another small house in the middle of no where in Fife but I
needed to be near a town and I need a two bedroom place as
it wouldn't be right for me to share a room with carers,
there had to be space for them to stay over night but there
was nothing. my doctor even wrote letters telling them all
what I needed but it didn't make any difference. one
association even told me that someone would have to die
before they could off me a place and even then I wouldn't be
on the top of their lists as families get priority. in a lot
of cases, there were ten year waiting lists. Hence I'm in
France, I gave up, I thought I'd come and see what it was
like and to be honest, I am glad I came, I love it, it's
brilliant. I don't regret it at all.

Now for a description. All around us is trees, the wildlife
is fantastic, there are thousands of birds, all different
types. in Scotland, which is where I lived before France,
you very rarely heard a bird but here you hear birds all the
time and in their hundreds. there are deer, foxes, badgers,
all sorts, including salamanders. I have my windows open
24/7 and I have not shut them for well over 2 months and in
the mornings, you hear all the birds all around the house.
there are hazel trees, chestnut, conifers, all sorts, mum
has planted loads of fruit trees in the garden as well as
many ordinary trees like oak, ash and much more. The garden
was just a field when we got it but mum has turned it into a
proper garden.

Ok we are right on a busy main road but it's not as busy as
your roads, just lorries going back and forwards to the
quarry and various farms and towns. there are also tractors
going backwards and forwards all of the time. it is a main
road leading from Callac to the main motorway about 4 miles
away. We have villages all around us, the nearest one is
Lohuec and the you have the pretty little town where I go
for my haircuts, an old fashioned barber shop. The name of
the town is guelisquan but I'm not exactly sure how to spell
it. There are many larger towns not far from here, about 20
to 30 km and many smaller villages on the way, it is lovely.

As I said, it is not cut off. The neighbours are all very
friendly, we all help each other, things are quite expensive
over here so we often buy stuff from the Uk and get it
shipped, and they help us with translation, going to
official places, getting forms filled in and much more.
that's how life should be. everyone helping one another.

I don't miss the uk, I miss my friends and family but we are
so far flung now, all over the world that we all keep in
touch with the internet or phones. For me to phone the uk,
it only costs me 40 euros per month, with that I can phone
the states, Canada, all over Europe, Uk, and it only costs
me 40 euroes. You ask Keith, we quite often chat and it
costs us nothing.

I miss very little from the Uk, a few foods, Cornish
pasties, fish cakes, some english sausages but the french
ones are beautiful, making my mouth water just thinking
about them! There are so many nice things to eat over here,
I don't miss much at all. I love the french food. There are
so many lovely french cheeses for a kick off. the french
bread is lovely too but it depends on where you buy it of
course.

England has become so expensive to live in, things are much
cheaper over here. our council tax is only 300 euros for the
year, no road tax, tv license, it's just much cheaper.

Well Christine, I've been writing for quite a while now, I'm
dying for a coffee, that's something else I love, the french
coffees, I like to try different ones.

Well I've been writing this one in WordPad, didn't want to
lose it again so I apologise for any mistakes.

I'm going for my coffee and I'll talk to you later.

I hope I haven't bored you.

Lastly, the weather is a lot warmer, it is about 30 dgs
today and for me that is slightly too hot. I went with mum
to Callac today and when we parked up, it was so hot but you
noticed a difference when you opened the windows, there was
a nice draft. when we drove home the breeze was perfect.

take care.

Regards

Adrien
