I don't like the set volumes on AD compared to the TV volume. I have a Nebular tuning and find that although I leave my TV volume at a similar level, I'm always moving my audio description volume, often from program to program.

Hi Pele

I can confirm that we have had similar problems with ITV3 and ITV4 (I.e. breakup on ITV3 and echo on ITV4), also a few incidences of AD for the wrong channel being received and issues of poor balancing between main soundtrack and AD. No problems on BBC1 Wales, although AD has sometimes been absent when advertised on BBC2 Wales Digital. I don't know whether this is down to the Logik box or not as I do not have a Nebular system. I guess it could possibly have something to do with the broadcasters? I don't know enough about how AD is implemented technically to say though. Perhaps next time problems occur you could try the same channel on your Nebular and let us know how you get on.

We will shortly be moving house and I would love to get Virgin Media via cable, when you receive AD via cable or satellite the AD is mixed in at the broadcasters' end so you tend not to get these problems. But we will be renting again so may be stuck with BT line and freeview. I think 'temperamental' is the word for getting AD on Freeview with the Logik box at the moment, but still worth the effort most of the time and better than paying £600 for a specialist clunktraption.

Best wishes

James

Subject: [access-uk] Freeview Logik Box

Hi Everyone

Apologies for the length of this message.

I have been watching Freeview for over 5 years using a Nokia Communicator with no problems. Every so often, it breaks up, but soon corrects itself. We
had a
new aerial fitted when we moved to this house. It has an amplifier, so Freeview should be ok.

Earlier this year I decided that I would like to be able to select audio description. I already have a nebula box, so can listen on my PC, but I thought it would
be
good to attach a box to the television.

I purchased a Logik box from Currys. I connected it up and was concerned about the quality of the sound and the audio description. On some stations, in particular ITV3, the soundtrack broke up while the audio describer was talking. also, on ITV1 the audio description stopped working. If I switched it off and
on
again it started again.

I sent the machine back and had a refund as they had no more in stock.

I then bought one, for more money, from RNIB. I have connected it up and seem to be encountering some of the same problems. I noticed that the audio
description on BBC1 kept jittering.

I have another problem now: ITV4 has an echo. This is also happening on the PC but the Nokia is ok.

Has anyone else had these problems and, if so, what did they do about them? Are there any settings I sould be amending?

Or, is the Logik Box not very good quality? Should I forget about audio description until something better comes along? I know there are various televisions which have it, but the smallest one, as I understand it, is 26 inches, and we do not have room for it.
