Hi Derek,
It all depends on what is meant by free. If you call 0800 100 100 on a mobile you get the message 'the number you have called is chargeable and will appear on any bill etc.' This means you pay for the call time but not for the directory enquiry service. Remember to add on the time for listening to the advert. On Vodaphone the 195 call is totally free as I have registered for the service with Vodaphone. I believe any 0800 call on a mobile is chargeable.

Agree should not  happen but some people say it does happen!
