RNIB will be launching a campaign in December calling for Talking ATMs to be rolled out across the country. Talking ATMs provide audio information to customers. Plugging headphones in to the socket on especially adapted ATMs allows customers to hear, in privacy, the information displayed on the screen, but too few Talking ATMs are currently in place. Sometimes, blind and partially sighted people who use ATMs are forced to ask strangers, to help them use an ATM. We'd like to hear from anyone who has done this. We are arguing that the general public wouldn't be prepared to give their PIN number to a stranger to get money from an ATM so why should blind or partially sighted people have to? If you've asked a stranger to help you we'd like to hear from you. What was your experience? If you've used a Talking ATM we'd also like to hear from you.
