Are these external USB hard drives just plug and go? They sound great for back-up. - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adrian Higginbotham" <adrian.higginbotham@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, December 13, 2006 1:49 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: External hard drives? Hi Harry - no idea: Either I have dyslexic fingers today or I have some spurious outlook = setting which has strangely encoded some symbols in my post. What I meant to say was I had seen a 250 gig harddrive on misco for a = bargain price of =A360 (sixty pounds). External drives do seem to be = getting cheaper very quickly. It is more a question you want it to do. If you just have the one PC = =3D then a cheap USB hard drive will be sufficient. If for example you have = =3D a number of PCs and a router to connect it to with a free ethernet port, = =3D and want to have your files available throughout your home network then = =3D the one with ethernet that describes itself as network attached storage = =3D may be the thing you want. In theory you could connect it directly to a = =3D PC with a network port using a corssover cable but I wouldn't advise it. = =3D USB and firewire are better for direct PC connection. Regards. KHi all, please can anyone tell me what the best external hard drive = =3D is for me to use with my laptop? There's one which plugs into the router and = =3D one that just goes into your computer, right? So anyone know which is the better and if I went for the router one can you use it directly into = =3D the computer or is it restricted? Maybe someone will tell me something else is easier for VI people to = =3D use than an external hard drive?
