Hi Eleanor
Personally I would say goodbye to Internet Explorer, it’s so way out of date
now that you could compromise security by using it. I use the new Chromium
Edge browser or Chrome.
Kind regards,

hi Jackie, I am puzzled! Downloading the chrome browser I am able to download
the library books. I have Internet explorer on my Windows 7 machine and it
looks like it's not possible for me to download from it.

Hi Eleanor
You might be better contacting RNIB to see if someone can help. When a book
downloads, it goes into your Downloads folder, as you know, and you then have
to unzip it. I find the built-in Windows utility is just as adequate for this
task. You highlight the zip folder, then bring up the Context menu and arrow
up or down to Extract and press enter. You then tab across to Extract All and
press enter. You should then find both the zip folder and the book folder in
your Downloads folder, and it’s the unzipped book you want to copy to your card
or wherever you store them to listen.

I have tried this Jackie, unsuccessfully! I am told that the book has
downloaded but it is not in my downloads folder. I asked my friend to do is on
her computer, she is a sighted person, she had no problem but what was
interesting is that once it had downloaded she said that at the bottom of her
screen she had an option to open or save the zip file. I have tried this
numerous times today but to no avail and. my computer insists that this file
was downloaded today the 7th of June 2020. if I go and search for something
else to download for example 7 zip, and I save this it is saved in my downloads
folder!

Hi Eleanor
So you have logged in, searched for a title, then entered on that title’s link?
You then proceed to the Download button further down that page. You should –
though I grant you it doesn’t happen every time – get a message to say your
book is in your Pending Downloads. This doesn’t mean it has downloaded to your
computer, it means the book has been requested from the RNIB server, and it is
being prepared for download. After a few minutes, then, go to your account
near the top of the page, and choose Pending Downloads from that menu. In
here, you should see books that are ready to download, so press the button on
the one you want, and it should eventually land in your computer’s Downloads
folder. If it doesn’t, go back to the link that is the title of the book you
want and press it again. It should then chivvy it along to download.
I know this sounds like bunkum, but that’s what you have to do in order to use
the service. I love it, but I agree with those who say it’s clunky and not for
the faint-hearted!

Jackie Brown

Once you are told that the book has downloaded, you need to give it a few
minutes, but should then find it in your downloads folder.
