Hi Clive,
If you do some internet research, you will find the blank message problem is
far, far wider than even I had imagined.

Hi all,
Ironically, and by accident, I've just sent a blank message to the group due to
pilot error. It would have said that I suspect that as long as we're on
Freelists, this topic will continue to raise its head from time to time, until
and unless someone at their end gets to the bottom of the problem. I've seen
this blank message issue on three different lists over the years, and they were
all Freelists - one of which I ran when I was in work. I have to be honest and
say I've never seen this on any group not run on the Freelists platform, nor
have I read any threads about blank messages on groups outside of Freelists.
I'm not suggesting moving the list, just recounting my experiences of the Blank
Message phenomenon, in case it proves helpful to anyone. So, if you're going to
shoot the messenger, put blank cartridges in the gun! (smile)
Best,
Clive

Hello Paul
I am not sure that would help as messages which appear blank to some are not
blank to others. I very rarely get blank messages. i usually use my iPhone or
iPad to read mail with the native mail client. Nobody has said my messages are
blank. Perhaps this will be the first time.

Hello all,
Please, is there not an archive where all emails sent to the list are stored?
Surely visiting there with various browsers will give more information?
If a recipient system again finds a blank message on the archive then does
this suggest it is deeper than just focusing on the email clients involved?
I cannot make personal investigations, Freelists became inaccessible to my
ancient version of Guide a long time ago.

Hi George,
I would tend to disagree with both. I'd say it is an encoding issue. It
only happens when the recipient is using Outlook.
It is certainly not a reversed DNS problem, since some see it, and some
don't. If the sender were to blame because of reverse lookups, then the
message would either be flagged as spam, or not received by anyone, their
mail servers would simply reject it, not receive it but strip out the body.
So I'm not sure where you came up with that one.
All the best
Steve

Hi Jackie,
I can assure you this is not the only list which suffers the problem of blank
messages, but so far I've been unable to determine an exact cause.
My suspicions so far are two-fold. First is that the sender's email system
is not reacting correctrly to what is known as "Reverse Lookup", which is
designed to reduce spam. The second is that it may be some type of issue
related to a specific type or version of hardware/software.

Would it be possible for the list moderator or owner to look into why some
messages on this list come in as blank? I am using Office 365, and all
messages from Ibrahim and a few others come in with nothing in them. This
seems to be the only list I am subscribed to where it occurs. Martin is also
subscribed and gets the same blanks, so is it an Outlook thing or what?
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown
