Hello David,I do Alt o and go into the format menu. But I can't find an item called Numbering in there. There's Bullets And Numbering, Auto Format - are either of these what you mean?

to switch it off, alt o and using the arrow keys find numbering and againcursor to none and hit enter. That should do it once and for all. In other words, how do I switch the automatic numbering feature off?The feature is quite useful I find. But the current trouble I'm having is - I pressed enter twice because I wanted to start a new paragraph. I expectedWord to leave the line blank and allow me to carry on writing withoutcontinuing the numbers, instead the numbers carried on including one on theblank line.
