hi dave thanks for that information will be very helpful. from marie Marie Peake E-mail: mariepeake3@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx MSN: mar7283@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: marie.peake On 20/06/2010 11:45, Dave Taylor wrote:
Hi Children are taught braille by QTVIs and support workers in school. Adults are taught be rehab officers or volunteers at local societies. There is no qualification anywhere that includes how to teach braille, but the book Sense and Sensitivity by Nigel Berry, available from RNIB is a good start. The qualifications that do exist are in the braille code, not how to teach it. Am I right Chris? If so the RNIB correspondence course is a BTEC and worth the equevelent of two A-levels. If your friend does another A-level, she may gain access to Portsmouth university where she can do a teacher training degree that will enable her to work with and teach children with visual disabilities. Portsmouth is the Only university that does this now. Regards. Christine. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Taylor"<dave@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To:<access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, June 16, 2010 10:33 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Applying for Braille courses, for a friendHi If you know grade 2 already you can do it, but it's not meant for teaching. Nor do RNIB have volunteer teachers. Please just ask the helpline about learning opportunities in Wolverhampton or wherever they live and they will go through the options, whether self-teach. They can do this for blind people and sighted alike and point them in the right direction. They have a BTEC Advanced Grade Two English Braille certificate she can do herself using the Primer. I think they run these courses a couple of times a year.
