this is exactly why I am also interested in one of these things, as I have
had a couple of parcel people like that as well. either that, or they do
ring the bell, but only hang around for about 5 seconds before going, which
is extremely annoying!

I have had an interesting use for my Ring doorbell in the past.
I was in my home and I noticed that a slip of paper had been put through my
letterbox. I was alone at the time so needed to wait until someone could
read the card to me. It was from my energy supplier who told me that they
had called to read my meters but no one was at home at the time and could I
arrange a new appointment. My phone could not read this to me as it had hand
writing on it.
I was a little cross about this.
From my phone I was able to snap a video of him coming down my drive and
putting the card into my letterbox with no attempt at ringing the doorbell
or any other attempt to attract attention. Clearly he simply wanted to get
as many attempts as possible to increase his pay rate.
I sent my energy supplier an e-mail with the video attached to it.
I then contacted my energy supplier by phone and told them what had
happened.
They were, of course, apologetic and asked me when would be suitable for a
return visit. I told them but with no effect. I asked about the video I had
already sent thEm. There was a little waffle but no real answer to the
behavour of theI sent an e-mail to my supplier with the video attaced to it.
meter reader.

Hello,
I pay it as an annual payment as it is not a prohibitive amount as an annual
fee, especially in view of the total cost of ownership of the full system.
I am now not sure of how much this was.
Others may be able to advise on that.

Hello Henry,
Yes, I use my iPhone to access the Ring ap. It is not the best ap I have
come across but it can be used with practice.
The Pro version does have a motion detector in it which I have set to make a
sort of warble sound.
When the door bell is actually pressed it makes a traditional ding dong
sound.
I also have some devices plugged into mains sockets in the house which act
as alternative sound sources so that I do not need to carry my iPhone all of
the time when at home. One of these is also a transformer to supply the
doorbell with power. Otherwise the battery supply in it needs replacing with
a new rechargeable battery from time to time.
Although I do not use another facility, you can also stream the video
content to a smart TV, but with no vision I did not bother with this.
Regards John

Hi John
How accessible is the Ring device and do you use your IPhone to communicate
with the bell? Also how do you know someone is on your drive? We are both
totally blind.
Best wishes
Henry

I also have a Ring doorbell.
I like the fact that I know, wherever I might be that there is someone at my
door, or even on my drive.
If the doorbell is then pressed then I can talk to the person at the door
and find out the reason for them calling to my home and making a decision
about how to deal with them.
It gives me a feeling of comfort.
Unlike Steve Nutt I do not have lots of Google kit around the house to
influence my decision, but he has a valid point.

Hi,
I know of at least one other lister who has, as I do, a Ring doorbell.
It alerts you, by ringing your phone, as soon as motion is detected at the
door.
You can then speak to the visitor, and if you can see, you can also see
what's happening at your door.
Hope this is of use.
All the best,
Richard
