Hdllo,
I heard that HTML is also more risky. And considering we're not allowed
attachments, why allow HTML?

Yes it is. Email everywhere should be in plain text. It is only
slavish obedience to Microsoft defaults that has led to the widespread
and misguided adoption of HTML in email. The problems with blank
messages sent to this list demonstrate exactly why.

And in a list designed specifically for the use of the VI, why use markup?

Hi George,

This guideline below:-

8 All messages sent to the group should be in plain text.

This is never enforced and is probably the reason that messages appear
blank. I never even realised that plain text on here was mandatory and have
been happily sending in HTML. I bet everyone using Outlook has been doing
the same, since it is not the default format.

Is that guideline really necessary nowadays?

All the best

Subject: [access-uk] Access-UK - List Policy and Guidelines
Importance: High

I think it's time once again to clarify once again the List Guidelines.

I think the first policy is quite clear.

There are other lists which cover daily living and other issues.

Access-UK

Policy & Guidelines

The revised guidelines below are designed to outline in detail the code of
conduct which is expected from its members.

Please be sure that you understand these but feel free to contact the Group
Owner if you want further clarification.

1 This list is primarily set up for UK users of Access
Technology to discuss any technical problems which are related to either the
hardware or software they are using.

2 Members can discuss access products in relation to mainstream
software or hardware.

3 The group is UK based but membership is open to international
subscribers.

4 The group is made up from technology users of all walks of
life. Knowledge and experience is vast amongst its members. It is
therefore an excellent resource for new members and those less experience to
be able to ask questions. Irrespective of your level of knowledge or
experience, you should not be afraid to ask something which you may feel is
silly or not important. Chances are that someone else wanted to know the
same thing or perhaps didn't think of it.

5 Personal comments or remarks of a slanderous or derogatory
nature directed to any of the group's members will not be tolerated.

6 Grievances between members should be directed to the list
owner and not aired on list.

7 The list owner reserves the right to terminate or ban any
member who contravenes the guidelines despite previous warnings and, without
notice.

8 All messages sent to the group should be in plain text.

9 No file attachments are permitted.

10 Try to avoid reply messages such as "me to" and "I thought
that".

11 This group is not a platform to air personal grievances against
any one company. For example, minor delays in receiving software or goods.

12 Please keep subject lines on topic. Where the subject content
changes, please amend the subject heading before sending.

Advertising Policy

The following guidelines should be closely followed:

1 Blatant advertising is not in any way permitted on this
list. This can be defined as advertising complete outlines of the products
and services which a company can offer along with prices.

2 No company or product press releases are to be sent.

3 Information however is important for this group's membership
and small notices no larger than one screen of text can be sent outlining
briefly the product or announcement and directing people to a website
address so they can have the choice of whether or not they want to read
about it.

4 If you consider that your posting can be interpreted as an
announcement, please put ANNOUNCEMENT at the beginning of the subject line.

5 Companies or individuals who overstep this will firstly be
given a warning and asked to ensure this doesn't happen again.

6 Where step 5 is ignored, the company or individual will be
removed without notice.

Please follow these guidelines as best as possible and make the group an
even better resource.
