Hi Douglas,

If the Router is anything like Linksys routers, leave the user name blank
and put admin as the password. That should get you in if the router is set
to default configuration.

All the best

Steve

Subject: [access-uk] Accesing Router

When I decided recently to move into the broadband era I chose an ISP
which supplied as part of its package a very simple single port router. It

was pre-configured so that I only had to connect it via an ethernet cable to

the computer and I was "on line on one of my machines. I felt that this
approach would enable me to familiarise myself with the basics before
purchasing a more sophisticated router likely to meet my current (and
anticipated future) requirements.

All appears to be working well, but i have so far been unable to access the

router. The ISP advise backing up the configuration by first accessing the
router with http://192.168.254.254. Doing this I am asked to log in - I
enter
admin as user name and a password provided by the ISP, but can get no
further. Ultimately I get an "Authorisation required" message. Contacting
the Tech Support of the ISP the only suggestion I was given was to try a
browser other than IE7! Not surprisingngly that makess no difference.

I am sure that I am doing something stupid, but cannot think what it can be.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I wonder whether my firewall
might be interfering?

Thanks,

Douglas
