Thanks for the reply mate.
Yeah I believe what resolution you see in the Il2 app setting in steamvr is the
resolution you are playing the game at.
I am just a bit puzzled by the performance of the 3080, I was expecting a
massive bump in performance.
I tried your game setting on my pc at 90hz(I normally run 80hz) on my normal
test QMB mission when I test my frame rates. My resolution is slightly down on
yours at 2016x2240 which is around 160,000 pixels difference. My frames very
rarely dropped below 90.
When Joe first reported his benchmarks and setting he was using to play Il2 I
was disappointed with the results he was reporting. The 3080 will/should skin
the 1080ti and I reckon the drop off will be steeper with the 1080ti the higher
the resolution goes.
Maybe I was expecting too much, but at the resolution you and I are running I
was thinking high/extreme clouds, shadows ultra, 120hz, etc, should be
achievable.
Maybe the game engine and VR play a massive part, just a bit surprised really.
I do think running multiple software to run a game like using WMR/steamvr or
oculus/steamvr does not help matters.
The main reason Witch runs FXAA instead of MSAA is because he runs high clouds,
the gpu could not run them with MSAA. Also if we get on a server with heavy
cloud it has a big effect with high cloud setting, another reason we don’t like
flying on servers with loads of clouds.
Hope you find a setting you like.

But who knows how and where that gets transformed to the native resolution?
I think one of the problems with the G2 is that it's not a native SteamVR
piece of kit, so I suspect the translation layer is not very mature and may
never be.
I have had it running at much higher resolution. But then I get clobbered on
a map with lots of trees and clouds.
I'll probably wind it back up again and get rid of MSAA to try some changes
soon.
But I suspect main memory to GPU is the bottleneck.
The SYN_Vander benchmark doesn't seem very representative of typical MP
environments. After your comment, I went back to Ultra and find it makes a
lot of difference on the benchmark, but much more occasional slowdowns on
real DF servers.
I'm surprised Witch uses FXAA.
