Meant to post on this subject before going to RIAT, but hectic week etc...
Anyway I was dragged to Fairford by my partner who was very excited about going
and has been planning/mentioning it since we didn’t go last year. She picked me
up early evening, Thr, as I went to leaving do straight from work. Just enough
light left for putting up tent and having a bit to eat and drink by time we got
to campsite.
BBMF were the only WW2 WarBirds flying and no WW2 statics either, aside from 1
Spit V (well, kind of a Mk.V). Disappointed by that, although there was a Camel
and BE2, which were both good to see up close. Hunter, Vampire and Venom too,
from my WT hangar. Otherwise all noisy shiny things, which is what Louise
really liked. Had a great view of the Flanker right overhead, as we were on the
way back to the car and campsite by then. Thinking of doing it next year but
not going in, as you can get a good view from campsite and if you arrive a day
early you get to see all the foreign displays as they get their CAA approval.
Louise wants to do Bovington too - when the Tiger is out. Guess they’ll have a
Tiger day over school holiday?
Anyone else go to RIAT?
