I made the same mistake one time when our Black brothers were flying for Red
but had become separated from the main squadron and were outnumbered in a fight
while we were trying to find them. When a finally spotted them they were
about 7km away, the fight was down low and we were about 2000m up. As they
were in serious trouble we all pointed out noses at them to get there quicker
but by the time we arrived we had lost almost all our considerable E advantage
and I was shot down by one of the 109s zoom climbing after me despite me
starting with about 1900m height advantage at full cruise and him having just
come out of a tight dogfight.

Some interesting reflections on the Spitty.
One in particular about losing e-advantage through long tail chases
leading to near-equalising of energies. We had that discussion a couple
of months ago after we started an attack leading to a long chase where
we gradually lost our advantage which is, I suppose, the current combat
topic in reverse.
