At around 8:25 this morning I was at Bradford Beach, admiring RB Mergansers
through the scope, when I saw a long-necked grebe in the distance. It had a
longish, yellow-colored, dagger-like bill and it was tilting its head like some
loons and other grebes I've seen. It's body was darkish, but most striking was
how the white on the front of its long neck and lower head contrasted with the
dark coloring all along the back of its neck and the upper half of its head.
Bruce stopped by and looked at the bird, and we concurred that it's a Western
Grebe. Bruce tried to photograph it, but it was too far out.
