I just scanned the lake for about a half hour from the North Point Snack
Bar. I didnt see a grebe, but loons are flying northn far out over the
lake, mostly too far to ID. One RED-THROATED LOON was swimming close
enough to ID, although not much other than Red-breasted Mergansers and the
usual gulls to pick through.

Mergansers through the scope, when I saw a long-necked grebe in the
distance. It had a longish, yellow-colored, dagger-like bill and it was
tilting its head like some loons and other grebes I've seen. It's body was
darkish, but most striking was how the white on the front of its long neck
and lower head contrasted with the dark coloring all along the back of its
neck and the upper half of its head. Bruce stopped by and looked at the
bird, and we concurred that it's a Western Grebe. Bruce tried to photograph
it, but it was too far out.
