See our new calendar of events at: http://wglbbo.org/calendar#year=2012&month=2&day=1&view=month The Observatory has been approved for a USFWS grant supporting new seasons of offshore aircraft Lake Michigan waterfowl and waterbird surveys; flights started this past Monday. Good numbers of Long-tailed Ducks and Common Goldeneyes were found from 1-10 miles offshore from Door, Kewaunee, and northern Manitowoc counties, along with smaller numbers of Bufflehead, with Gr. Scaup found nearer the shoreline. As an example, on this first day of surveys two flocks of LTDUs totalling >1600 individuals were found, too far offshore to be seen from land (thus demonstrating part of the rationale for these deepwater aircraft surveys). -- William P.
