I'm not sure what 'significant' would be, but there is an increase in red-headed woodpecker families living here and coming to our feeders. This summer there are 3 pairs and usually it's one or two. But then our woodlot is much changed over the last few years with a big increase in oak-wilt and death caused even more frequently by the 2-lined chestnut borer. So many, many standing dead trees within our 100 acres. It will be interesting to see what happens when all these standing dead trees fall down. It doesn't take much to pull down an oak that's died of oak wilt, because the roots have rotted. But meanwhile, we sure enjoy our scolding, chattering, noisy visitors who muscle aside all the other woodpeckers in the neighborhood.
