When things are slow at Pike Lake it pays to head east to Lion's Den. Pike is, however, starting to get some waterfowl in the form of a huge coot raft. Lion's Den this morning was slow in many ways. Only 4 warblers and for the first time in a while, not a peep from a single Catharus thrush. What was around though was a whole lot of kinglets, with rubies outnumbering GCs by 5:1. Also the most brown creepers I've ever seen! Some trunks had 5 clamoring around at once. A rough estimate would be ~30. Also the usual fall sparrows and juncos. First rusty blackbirds (3) showed up as well.
