Anyone looking to do some "gulling" along the Lake Michigan shore this weekend should be aware of a couple of events. The Milwaukee Air & Water Show is on both days - they're actually trying to scare the gulls away with a modified starter pistol, in an effort to avoid a plane/bird encounter like the one that knocked out a Blue Angel's jet engine a few years back (fortunately, it was a twin-engined plane and landed safely.) Also, Sheboygan has a "SUP & Surf" event on Saturday at Deland Park and North Beach (SUP = stand-up paddleboarding.) Manitowoc appears to have a marathon up to Two Rivers on Sunday that will go along the lakeshore, so expect major traffic and access impacts. If I haven't mentioned it before, travelwisconsin.com is a really useful website for planning birding trips. You can find out what events are on in a particular town if you're looking to avoid crowds. There is also a fairly comprehensive list of places to stay, etc. (but always double-check both of those using other sources, since their info is not 100% accurate at times.)
